Illustrative
Illustrative style tattooing refers to any style of tattooing that uses illustration style techniques. Generally using outlines to define shapes, often using a variety of line weights to create depth and hierarchy. Although painting is sometimes used in illustration, usually the style is associated with the use of lines called hatching and cross hatching as well as dots called stippling to create shading and modeling. These techniques are used in a variety of art forms from etching, wood block and linoleum block printing, and pen and ink illustration.
